Sabotage
[edit]This edit of yours was referred to in the Edit Summary for this other edit as "the sabotage of my numbering" by Asclepias. Please don't do that. — 🇺🇦Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 15:14, 25 November 2024 (UTC)
- But it wasn't sabotage, and turned inaccessible manual numbering (Asclepias has been here long enough to know better then to use such) into accessible markup with exactly the same meaning. It is lamentable to see such an edit reverted. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 16:39, 25 November 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Pigsonthewing, Frankly, that was no big deal, but it was mildly irritating and my edit comment was merely the equivalent of a friendly soft growl. I understand that the intention was not necessarily bad, although the actual consequence was indeed to break the organization and understandability of my comment. I agree with Jeff G.'s suggestion, please do not modify other users' comments to change them with your own ideas or preferences. It is not "lamentable" to see this change reverted. If my preference and habit of organizing some of my comments with a decimal numbering system and bullet marks really disturbs you that much, I suppose I might consider removing the numbers completely (leaving the bullet marks), but I disagree with your unilaterally changing the numbers and the logic with your different numbers, making the organization of the paragraphs illogical, absurd and incomprehensible. And no, I have no idea of what you mean when you say that users should "know better" than use numbers. It's not a secret that I'm not good at anything technical or with technical jargon. Please educate me. You are the first person who ever complained about this thing. But I am willing to learn. You might even convince me if that is something really important that users should know. Why writing numbers in comments is different or worse than writing letters and words? Why is the number "2.1" more "inaccessible" than, say, the word "pumpkin"? Is alphabetical or alphanumerical ordering, such as B) 1) a), also forbidden? Does the interdiction apply to discussion pages only? A link to an existing recommendation will be sufficient if that is already detailed somewhere. -- Asclepias (talk) 19:14, 25 November 2024 (UTC)
- I did not "break the organization and understandability of your comment", and nor did I "change the numbers and the logic... making the organization of the paragraphs illogical, absurd and incomprehensible". I fixed its markup, leaving the content whole and its meaning unchanged. I hope you have prefect eyesight. Many of my friends and some of my relatives do not, and rely upon accessible markup. I always used to be confident of my eyesight, but having lost it in one eye, with an equal threat to the other, I'm on longer so sure. There are plenty of resources online that will answer your questions about how specific aspects of accessible (and semantic) markup work and why it is important on any web page. This is one of many results from a google search: [1]. For mediawiki markup, see en:WP:LISTGAP Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 22:05, 25 November 2024 (UTC)
